What is required? A normal Windows bootdisk is required to perform this operation. One can be downloaded here. Booting Before you start to boot your computer, you need to set up your Windows bootdisk. If you downloaded one from the link above, simply follow the instructions on the website or included with the download. Once your bootdisk is ready, simply restart your computer with the disk in the drive. If your boot sequence is set to read floppy drive first, then a menu should appear. (Don't know how to check boot sequence? Read this) The menu will give you different options depending on which one you have, but the two most important ones will be similar to:
These options are asking if you want to be able to access CDs while in DOS or not. If you choose to load without CD-ROM support, the system will load faster, but you will need to restart and choose the other option before you can access your CDs. If the system has booted correctly, in a minute you should see A:> appear on your screen. This is the DOS prompt and can be used to solve many problems with your computer. Typing help and pressing enter will give you a basic set of commands that you can use. |
