What is a boot disk?

A boot disk is a utility that gives you access to DOS, a low level operating system that allows you to perform actions on your hardware that may not be possible through Windows etc (for example: formatting the main drive). There are several different boot disks available, though the best to use is commonly accepted to be the Windows 98 startup disk.

Where can I get a boot disk?

Many different boot disks may be available through the Microsoft website, but a large collection has been brought together here.

WARNING: Using a boot disk on your system can cause ill wanted effects, use with extreme caution.
